HERBAL MEDICINE & IMMUNE SYSTEM

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine in existence. It is also one of the most effective and versatile forms of medicine that mankind has ever created.

Echinacea

Echinacea is a genus of nine herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae; Compositae), commonly called coneflowers, originating from eastern and central North America. 1

As a herbal remedy, Echinacea is associated with immune system support, as it can help to increase the body’s natural defences against viruses and bacteria in the environment. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties that can help to fight colds and flu while strengthening healthy immune system functions.

Echinacea is one of the first herbs people think of when they want to boost their immune systems and fight infections.

Echinacea is a good way to boost your immune system in the early stages of an illness.

This herb makes your body stronger and more resistant to infection and illness. Echinacea is known to activate or stimulate the immune system by activating any of its components. There are a series of studies that support these immunomodulatory effects, with both increases in innate and specific immunity.

Echinacea can be taken as a dietary supplement or in capsule form. Studies have shown that Echinacea can be taken before and during colds, flu or other infections.

People take Echinacea in many formats: tablets, capsules, syrup and lozenges.

How long should you take Echinacea?

This herbal remedy is recommended for short-term use only (no more than a few weeks).

Astragalus membranaceus

Astragalus is a root that has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years. It is defined by the Chinese as a plant that strengthens the spleen, qi and blood.

It is used mainly to treat exhaustion, weakness and frequent infections. Astragalus is considered a gentle plant that is suitable for long-term use and even safe for children.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the root of this plant helps to support your body and protect against cold, flu or weakness.

Also, Astragalus is considered an adaptogen herb. Adaptogens are herbs that help protect the body against various stresses, including physical, mental or emotional stress.

Chinese Medicine has used this herb for centuries to fight fatigue, help with digestion and for its antimicrobial qualities during the flu season (for a few weeks).

Herbal teas

Immune system

Sage herbal tea is a great way to fight a sore throat.

You can make it at home by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over the herbs of your choice, covering it, and letting it steep for 5-10 minutes before drinking.

I recommend making tea with a few Sage leaves, Thyme, Ginger, Lemon and honey.

This herbal tea is an excellent homemade remedy for sore throat and coughing.

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is well known for its astringent, antiseptic and antibacterial qualities.

Honey

In ancient times, honey was known for its healing properties. It was used to treat wounds and for other medicinal purposes. Today, scientific research continues to prove the effectiveness of honey as a natural remedy.

Honey comes from bees that use nectar to make honey. The most common types include clover, alfalfa, orange blossom and wildflower. Manuka honey is a type of honey that comes from bees that gather nectar from the Manuka bush found in New Zealand.

Manuka Honey contains an active component called methylglyoxal (MGO). This component makes it more potent than regular honey and helps fight bacteria and viruses. The higher the MGO content, the more effective the honey will be at fighting infections and healing wounds.

It’s best to eat a teaspoon of Manuka honey just when you feel symptoms of a cold or sore throat coming on so that you can get ahead of those symptoms before they start affecting your health negatively!

If you can’t find Manuka Honey locally or online, regular unheated (raw), local and organic honey will also have some benefits for your body’s health as long as it doesn’t contain any pesticides or chemicals from being processed heavily.

Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus essential oil is a popular choice for many people who are looking for relief from respiratory problems.

Eucalyptus oil helps to open the airways and make it easier to breathe if you suffer from a stuffy nose or other breathing difficulties.

To use eucalyptus oil, add a few drops to an essential oils diffuser or oil burner and inhale deeply for several minutes. You can also dilute the oil in 1 tbsp of sweet almond or any other carrier oil, then add it to your bathwater before bathing.

If you want to make an inhalation bath, fill a bowl with 3 cups of boiling water and add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil; then cover your head with a towel and inhale deeply for several minutes.

In conclusion, there are many ways to boost your immune system.

Firstly, you can use healthy nutrition as a powerful tool. Secondly, you can use herbal medicine to support your immune system.
